AR/VR/HUD
Luminit offers cutting edge technology to enable the creation of wearable and integrated devices for Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Head-up Displays.
Below are the products offered for displays.
- Near-to-Eye Displays
- Head-up Display (HUD)
- the A/R HUD Design Reference Kit
Luminit is a leading provider of turnkey products and custom solution optics for the government agencies, as well as avionics and aerospace industries. The customer’s mission always comes first.
Near-to-Eye (NTE) Displays
Wearable and affordable Augmented Reality begins with better optics. Holoptic NTE (near-to-eye) is a thin film pattern that directs light beams without the need for conventional, bulky optics. Holoptic NTE delivers bright, full-color virtual images with a large field of view, resulting in Augmented Reality devices such as thin, transparent smart glasses. Other applications include gaming headsets and motorcycle visors.
Holographic Optical Elements (HOE)
Luminit develops special-purpose HOEs for the Air Force, Army, Navy, and NASA as well as for consumer products such as LCD and LED televisions. With over 20 years of in-depth HOE expertise, we’ve made significant advances in HOE-based technology, and our holographic capabilities provide new HUD and HMD systems with display brightness that is 10 times higher than convention HOEs due to highly efficient holographic optical elements. Some of the benefits our customers experience include more efficient product design, larger virtual image size, reduced weight, more flexibility in packaging design, and reductions in power consumption due to increased efficiency.
Other Government Project Development
Luminit has known achievements in the following fields for its government and commercial customers and partners through various projects as well as several SBIR and STTR grants. These efforts are listed below.
-
Augmented Reality (AR)
Luminit has extensive experience in AR. From simple applications such as projecting assembly directions onto an aircraft frame to head-up displays and near-to-eye overlays, additional information is added to the scene as viewed to increase individual accuracy and efficiency.

Hypersonics
Luminit and its business partners specialize in hypersonics research that includes wind tunnel model characterization, optical and laser-based sensors, and flow control.
-
Directed Energy
This topic covers a wide variety of devices, including remote sensors, illuminators, and weapons. Luminit has developed directed-energy spectroscopic probes for measuring atmospheric gases and for locating gas leaks, laser systems for illumination and welding/cutting, trackers to follow directed energy spots, and a software model that accurately and rapidly predicts the effects of beam propagation through the atmosphere.
-
Machine Learning
Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence that enables computers to make conclusions about new situations based on a combination of statistical algorithms and prior knowledge. This can significantly increase calculation speed and can be designed to keep studying until it reaches a specified level of resolution. We apply machine learning, for example, to improve our beam propagation software.
-
NDE
Nondestructive evaluation (NDE), which includes nondestructive inspection (NDI) and nondestructive testing (NDT), is a method of discovering the existence (or non-existence) of invisible damage without causing additional damage. Holoptic has developed several NDE devices for both military and commercial applications.
-
UAS
From battlefields to taco delivery, unmanned aerial systems (UASs), including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and airborne drones, are becoming more and more common. They can perform surveillance of potentially contaminated areas without exposing people to risk, and they can deliver items directly to a purchaser even in pedestrian-only areas.
-
Modeling & Simulation
Our optical and photonic devices are developed entirely in-house, from the concept through design, modeling, simulation, and fabrication. With several experienced optical designers, using modeling and simulation software, we can ensure that our concept will perform as expected before beginning production.
