What Are Light Shaping Diffusers?

Unlike traditional diffusers that scatter light randomly, Luminit’s LSDs use a surface relief microstructure, ranging from 3 to 80 microns, that creates a controlled angular distribution of light. This pseudo-random pattern reduces chromaticity issues, minimizes backscatter, and delivers high transmission efficiency across the visible and near-infrared spectrum (350–1200nm).

With optical power that diverges light, LSDs are available in circular, elliptical, and custom beam-shaping formats. The resulting intensity profiles, typically Gaussian, allow for superior homogenization and smoother illumination, even in demanding environments.
